Why do A-levels matter?

A question that is most frequently asked, especially in the turbulent times of social media coverage, with examples of Andrew Tate saying that school is a scam, and as is university. It is important to look at things from a holistic view to truly understand what is going on.

So answer the question… Why Do A-Levels Matter?

Simply put, A-Level’s will unlock a magnitude of doors otherwise unforetold. A-Levels are not simply a means to get into University, but a means to unlock more. For example, getting into a level 6 apprenticeship, unlocking internship and job opportunities. Further to this, it shows a determination and strengh to stick at something, that may not neccessarily be easy or fun for the student. But this determination and grit to achieve despite the challenge can be used to showcase a strength.

Not only this, but A-Levels, particularly the STEM subjects teach students truly how the world works, It is only with an understanding of Maths, Mechanics and Physics that one can truly, fundamentally understand simple things, such as, why is a door handle placed where it is (moments), Why is the sky blue (Rayleigh scattering), Why do car wheels spin in the direction they do, How do planes fly, how does the earth maintain an orbit around the sun.

Having a true grasp as to how the world works, is integral to living in it, Having a truly logical outlook and perspective on the operation of everything is a cruicial part of any endeavor.

Furthermore, whilst yes, it is possible to achieve financially, or in a business that may not necessarily need these skills, it is much easier with these under your belt, suddenly operations such as compound interest, how finances work, cashflow, Debt Utilisation, Taxes are all much easier if you have committed to understanding the Math fundamentals for 2 years.

To truly extend my point as to the importance of A-Levels. My first job in software engineering was thanks to my Computer Science A-Level pursuit. I was engaging in a conversation with someone I had met, when the topic came onto my A-Level subjects, and inturn my Computer Science Project, it was from my explanation of this, the functionalities and the algorithms developed in this project that I had unwittingly sold myself to what turned out to be the Founder and CEO of a Software Engineering company.

So, to conclude, Yes, A-Levels Matter, and they matter for much more than simply for the pursuit of a University Degree.
